The directors of Spirit of Place, Sam Carter and Sheila Hall sponsored by the Canadian Society for Asian Arts and in collaboration with Emily Carr University of Art + Design, Arts Umbrella and Save the Children Canada, presented Spirit of Place 2009 featuring the work of 35 young artists from Beijing. This project, a collaboration with Beijing Bright School, curated over 3000 young artists' works produced for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Thirty-five original works were framed and welcomed to Canada in a celebration of Beijing youth and their understanding of the spirit of their place. The exhibition was opened by the President of the Canadian Society for Asian Arts, the President of Emily Carr University and by the traditional music of the Chuen Ying Guzheng Ensemble.
